As we move deeper into the 21st Century, we find volatile and violent conflict increasing in all corners of the globe. Arguably 90% of this violence is based on radical religious ideologies. Other great religions have experienced friction both internally and externally as they have grown, and in many cases reformed.

Today, it is primarily Islam that is facing friction with the emergence of radical ideologies inside the faith that have a profoundly global effect. This segment of our Continuing Education program answers the question: “How did this come about?”

This presentation addresses three major areas to answer that question. First, it examines the life and religion of Mohammed. Next, it discusses the growth and development of the religion after the death of Mohammed in June 632 A.D. Finally, it addresses the rise in radical Islamist ideology and the persistent friction that exists within the faith. The presentation’s conclusion offers the opportunity for a “spirited” and question-and-answer period.
